HEALTHY HIKE--APRIL 9th READING IN THE PARK

Well, we hiked to the park today! We are getting to know that place pretty well. We can make it around the park in less time each time we go! It was really fun reading in the park. Everyone enjoyed it. Now, we will be on our own for a few days while we enjoy our Easter break. Everyone --REMEMBER TO KEEP MOVING and KEEP READING!

Special congratulations to the kids who have already completed their HEALTHY HIKE BINGO CARD at the Hawarden Library. Another card will be ready for you on Tuesday, April 14th.

Remember to walk to the Library next week. It's "National Library Week."

HEALTHY HIKE--DAY 7

Today we went up to the high school and had a great time.
We "worked out" with the high school P.E. Class.
It was so much fun! We played basketball, ran on the track, exercised on the field. What fun!
We can't wait for tomorrow and see what we will be doing. We know we will be reading and moving.

HEALTHY HIKE-- DAY 6 CONTINUED--- - -

We had a surprise guest arrive at the third grade room. The Mayor stopped by to encourage us to keep moving and to keep reading. He presented each of a us with a "reading rocks" wristband. Each time we look at the band we will remember what we have pledged to do during the month of April. Remember "READING ROCKS"! Way to go Healthy Hikers!

HEALTHY HIKE -- DAY SIX

Today we read with the second graders for a half hour. The time flew by. We did a reading strategy with two different books. It was a time to relax and enjoy books! There is nothing better than sharing a book with a friend!

HEALTHY HIKE--DAY 4

Starting out on the first round around the park! The wind was blowing!
This group was getting warm! Notice some coats are open!

Third time is a charm! We all made it through the park three times!

Well, it snowed over the weekend but we still "hiked" to the Hawarden Public Library this morning and checked out books! It was great! The wind was a little nasty on the hike back to school but we made it. Many of the third graders are playing "Healthy Hike Bingo" and winning a grab bag prize at the library.

At 12:15 p.m., we marched out of our classrooms and joined the second graders on a hike through the city park. We walked through the park three times. Most of us were not a bit tired.

Our teachers and the public librarian are doing better each time we walk the park! Next time, Mrs. Haverhals will bring her walking shoes! We can't wait to see what's planned for tomorrow.

We are just going to go home and hike or exercise and read! We are loving this!

HEALTHY HIKE-- DAY 3

Mrs. Buryanek can walk faster than any of us. It was a beautiful day for a walk around Ireton.

Reading to a kindergartener--a Dora book was a great success!

Listening to stories on the way to the school in Ireton.

We boarded the bus at school. We had our books to read to the kindergarteners in Ireton. We had all worked very hard to pick just the right books to read. We were also excited that the kindergarteners were going to read to us. On the way over to the school, we listened to stories! Another great way to use books! Plus, we walked around and around the school at Ireton!

Keep it up Healthy Hikers!

HEALTHY HIKE PICTURES -- DAY 2

Even our principal was reading. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop!

Walk faster ladies, you are falling behind the kids!

We formed a long parade of walkers along the main street of town.

Everyone was reading and reading and reading. We didn't want to stop!
